Type of orbit: sun-synchronous, i.e. the satellite crosses a certain point always at the same time of the day.

Inclination of the orbit: 98 degrees compared to the equatorial plan.

Siderisk: 102 minutes, 14 orbits are achieved per day on ascending and descending passes. The period of revolution is the time taken for the satellite to complete a full rotation of the Earth. The 2 satellites are out of phase; a same area is flown over at least 4 times per day with an interval of approximately 6 hours.

Instrument: AVHRR

AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) is a radiometer which enables a very high resolution.

This instrument scans a roughly 3000 km wide swath. (1,1 km to the vertical of the satellite).
